Derek Parra, who was one of 8 Olympians to carry the 9-11 World Trade Center Flag into the Olympic Games, is an American of Mexican Native American decent inline skater and speed skater from San Bernardino, Ca, who graduated from Eisenhower High School in Rialto, California, in 1988. Parra won two medals at the 2002 Winter Olympics, held in Salt Lake City, Utah.
I caught up with him at the Finding Leaders Among Minorities (FLAME) Conference in Colorado Springs, CO and chatted with him about switching sports from inline to ice speed skating as well as what his emotions were when he carried the flag into the Olympic Stadium in Salt Lake City.
